Faceted Search

This project creates a scalable, faceted search experience across Delish and The Pioneer Woman, using a shared taxonomy to quickly guide users from uncertainty to making a choice tonight.

Pain Points:

The current search experience relies on linear result lists with limited filtering and heavy scrolling, making it hard for users to quickly evaluate and compare recipes, especially in large results.

An improved recipe search experience may result in users finding their perfect recipe faster, potentially meaning fewer page views per visit, decreased scroll depth, or seemingly negative impacts to other KPIs.

Exploration & Validation

The mobile designs feature a filter/sort overlay with multi-select chips and reset options. It was designed to scale across brands, demonstrated here on Delish and The Pioneer Woman.

The desktop exploration mainly compared overlay versus persistent side panel placement.

  • Prioritize user efficiency without sacrificing business goals.

  • Create a faceted search that:

    • Lets users refine recipes with relevant filters

    • Standardizes recipe metadata across search and browse

Key Decisions & Tradeoffs

Aligned each brand with a focused subset of the recipe taxonomy, emphasizing time, difficulty, dietary needs, and occasion/meal type to keep the system relevant and user-friendly.

Collaborated with engineering to embed those filters into a unified content intelligence layer that supports recipe labels, attribute-based metadata, and consistent search and feed experiences.

Designed for reuse across Delish and The Pioneer Woman's distinct audiences and tones, the system:

  • Supports shared data structures

  • Allows brand-specific presentation

  • Scales for future lifestyle brands
